Completed June 2016  The comb-crested jacana (Irediparra gallinacea), also known as the lotus bird or lily trotter. Like other jacana species, it is adapted to the floating vegetation of tropical freshwater wetlands. The subtropical habitat with its giant green lilies, belied the presence of the vigilant crocodiles that lay lurking beneath it.
